What the business needed — and what I built around it.
I designed and developed a custom WordPress e-commerce website for Cold Case Inc, an online murder mystery experience where players solve fictional cases using interactive evidence and immersive storytelling.
The Process
Understanding the Brand
The goal was to create an engaging digital experience that reflected the unique, story-driven nature of Cold Case Inc’s games. The website needed to capture the intrigue of crime-solving while also functioning as a streamlined e-commerce platform.
Design & Development
Built with WordPress and WooCommerce, the site was designed to feel dark, immersive, and cinematic—mirroring the tone of the mysteries themselves. I incorporated custom elements and intuitive navigation to guide users through available cases and allow them to dive into the story immediately after purchasing.
E-Commerce Setup
I set up WooCommerce to handle instant game access, allowing customers to purchase individual cases and immediately gain access to the digital content. Product pages were built to showcase each case with story previews, difficulty levels, and teaser visuals.
User Access & Automation
The site uses a role-based access system that automatically unlocks content after purchase. Players can access their purchased cases through a secure dashboard, eliminating the need for downloads or manual approvals.
Mobile Optimisation & Speed
As many players access the game from tablets and phones, I made sure the site was fully responsive and optimised for speed to deliver a smooth experience across all devices.
Ongoing Development & Expansion
I continue to support Cold Case Inc with ongoing content updates, SEO, blog development, and the addition of new cases, keeping the platform fresh and growing with its audience.
